Kanako was born in Japan and developed an interest in picture books during an after-school bookmaking club. She wrote, illustrated, and bound her first original book when she was ten. She later moved to the United Kingdom to study illustration and animation at Kingston University. After publishing several books in the UK, she returned to Japan in 2008 and now works with domestic and international publishers. She wrote and illustrated El fantástico Sr. Wani.
