Istvansch (Istvan Schritter) is an Argentine illustrator, writer, designer, and one of the most distinctive voices in Latin American children’s books. Born in Madrid and raised in Argentina, he is especially known for his meticulous illustrations made with paper and scissors, a technique that has become central to his visual identity. His work has helped expand the possibilities of the picture book in Argentina, and his books have been published internationally. He also created and directed the pioneering Libros-álbum del Eclipse collection and has written and taught extensively about illustration and visual reading.
His career has received major international recognition. He was included in the IBBY Honour List, was Argentina’s nominee for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2002 and 2004, and was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. He also received the Octogonal d’Honneur in France and numerous distinctions from ALIJA, the Argentine branch of IBBY, with several of his books selected for its Honour List.
