Ages 5 to 8

Some children may learn to read before they are in the first grade, but most learn during first grade. Many learn even later.  The books included in this category have strong story lines and character development which help engage children with the book at a variety of literacy levels.

The vocabulary should be relatively familiar, but it will also include some challenging words.  The age span can go below and above the 5 to 8 years old mentioned above, with multiple levels of parents’ involvement and up to fully independent reading from the child.
